Koraput IIC Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹20,000 Bribe; Vigilance Probe On

Koraput | Dec 18, 2025 - Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended Smt. Sukma Hansdah, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 to submit a case diary in court.

According to official sources, Smt. Hansdah was the Investigating Officer in a case registered earlier at Dasmantpur Police Station. The accused in the case had been remanded to judicial custody, and the Hon’ble Court had sought submission of the Case Diary for further proceedings, including bail.

It is alleged that the IIC demanded ₹20,000 from a relative of the accused to produce the case diary in court and facilitate the bail process. Unable to comply and unwilling to pay the bribe, the relative reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance authorities.

Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Smt. Hansdah red-handed while she was receiving the bribe amount on Thursday. The entire tainted cash of ₹20,000 was recovered from her possession.

Following the arrest, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation is being conducted by Odisha vigilance along with Inspector Surya Prakash Naik of Odisha Vigilance, who is examining all aspects of the case, including the role of the accused officer and possible involvement of others.

Further investigation is underway, and Odisha Vigilance officials stated that stringent action will be taken against any public servant found indulging in corrupt practices.
