Karnataka: Government School Students to Get Free Notebooks Along With Textbooks from Next Year

Bengaluru, December 03: In a significant move aimed at supporting poor and rural students, the School Education Department has decided to provide free notebooks to government school and PU college students starting next academic year. Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa announced that each student will receive six free notebooks, in addition to the free textbooks already being supplied.

The minister highlighted that nearly 90% of economically weaker students study in government schools and colleges. Until now, while textbooks and uniforms were provided, students were forced to purchase notebooks on their own—an expense many parents struggled to afford.

“Without notebooks, students are unable to properly write class notes or complete homework. Many parents face financial hardship, and this has directly affected children’s learning,” Minister Bangarappa said.

To address this gap, the government has decided to supply one notebook for each of the six major subjects, ensuring that students have the basic materials needed for learning. The initiative is expected to bring major relief to thousands of families across the state and improve academic engagement among government school students.
