Suspicious Death of 30-Year-Old in Koraput Sparks Police Investigation

Koraput | Aug 31, 2025 – A pall of shock and suspicion has gripped Koraput after the mutilated body of a 30-year-old man was discovered near a hill, close to his parked motorcycle on the roadside. The deceased has been identified as Ante Mali of Mali Talagaon under Podagada Panchayat.

According to reports, local villagers first noticed the unattended motorcycle near Ponshaput-Banshguda Chowk and grew suspicious. Upon inspection, they found a body lying in a ditch nearby and immediately informed the Dumuriput police outpost.

Soon after, a team led by Satyananda Patra, Inspector-in-Charge of Koraput Town Police Station, rushed to the spot along with a scientific team and a sniffer dog squad. The body, which bore multiple injuries, was recovered and sent to SLN Medical College & Hospital, Koraput for postmortem examination.

Family members revealed that Mali had gone to Dumuriput on Saturday for some work but failed to return home. Their worst fears came true on Sunday morning when they received news of his tragic death. Alleging foul play, the family suspects that he may have been killed due to prior enmity.

Speaking on the matter, police officials stated that all angles are being explored. “The cause of death whether it is murder or suicide will be ascertained after the postmortem report,” said the officer, adding that the investigation is being carried out meticulously.

The incident has triggered widespread concern in the locality, with villagers demanding a transparent probe and swift justice. Police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to unravel the circumstances that led to Mali’s mysterious and untimely death.
