Chennai: A red alert has been issued for Chennai for the next 48 hours as there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning in some parts of the city. Ranipettai and Tiruvallur districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall.

The Kumari Sea will receive heavy rainfall due to the prevailing atmospheric mantle circulation over the Sri Lankan coast.
