Centre extends AFSPA in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh

Centre on Thursday extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in eight districts of Nagaland and three in Arunachal Pradesh for six months, effective October 1, 2024. The decision followed a review of the law and order situation in the states, allowing security forces sweeping powers to search, arrest, and use firearms as necessary to maintain public order.
